I don’t have have any exercise equipment so please don’t suggest that. My dogs haven’t been able to go outside for a couple of days and walk and they are starting to look depressed. It’s been cold and rainy with sleet the last couple of days. Thanks.

I get out there. Bundle up, honest. It won’t be that bad even if it is for a walk around the block, 10-30 minutes is alot better than nothing. Or maybe fence in your yard so they can “run free…”

if you have a yard, stand at the door and throw toys, make them chase it, just buy a lot of cheap toys if they are not too keen on bringing them back.

If not yard, then take them out when necessary like for mail, trash , ect, or just give them extra attention inside to perk up there mood.

I love my puppy penny so I can not stand to see her upset, hope this helps!

  18. HJ says:

We just keep throwing a ball down the hallway and have them keep fetching it. We give them little treats to keep them interested. Works every time.

  19. Elizabeth M says:

My dogs actually love the snow. I put my boxer’s jacket on, and He just run’s and plays. I I would say, maybe just do as much in the house as you can. I know that my dog can run a lot through our house. Sometimes, we let him go out in the rain although he doesn’t like to go off the porch.

  21. Bonsylar says:

You put on a parka and go.

    I recommend water proofing.

    And towels.

Dogs don’t care that it rains. They need to exersize everyday.
Get them water proof jackets if you’re worried.

Don’t bother buying those rubber boots for dogs! I did, and my dog shook them off easily after about 25 minutes of me rolling on the floor trying to put them on him!!
I know if we kept his paws protected with a waxy lotion he could tolerate the saltiness of the cold, but if his paws got dry and cracked he would just roll over on his back with his paws in the air. Dogs can go outside in the cold, just have a towel handy to wipe them off with when they come back in.

  23. somber_imperfection says:

Well whenever the sleet and rain seem to stop for a little while, take your dogs on a short walk up and down the street so youre not too far away from home if it starts up again. When youre inside, your best bet is to play tug of war with them or fetch (but be careful) or whatever it is that they play. That will make them happy and excersize their other muscles that they dont use as much on walks. If youre really desperate, walk them around PetsMart or Petco lol

  24. Ally says:

well, try throwing the tennis ball around in the house……..or, let them excercise outside! if they’re big dogs, then they’ll be fine! remember, some dogs pull sleds for hours at a time!!! and if its a small dog, it’ll probably be fine too, but just excersise it in the house!!!

By the way, i’ll give you a big THUMBS UP for actually excersising your dogs and paying attention to their behavior!

some people dont even to that!

i suggets maybe getting achair or stool, lay it down and try and teach them to jump over it. if they get bored try teaching them new tricks with treats involed my dog love that. Or you could by these toys from a pet shop called kongs it keeps dogs busy they are hardish rubely object that you fill with food and they try to figure out how to get the food out. keeps them ocupided for ages..

    hope this helped

my dog which is a siberan husky i run up and down everwhere exciting it and it loves it shes preety fit or if you have a small house you could buy a dog excersisor that they run up and down or maybe you might have a shed or if your keen you might join a club that you go to sometimes because they might work with dogs inside

  27. Sunny says:

If it’s a small dog like mine I got it a couple warm coats. At first she didn’t like them. But once she found she could go outside and stay warm she loved the coat. Now she likes to play in the snow and not come in. I just have to dress warm enough to keep up with her. Good luck.

  28. appledoll says:

I had that same problem, and a friend of mine told me about these umbrellas that are specially made for pets.

    I bought mine here: http://www.petgadgets.com

They sell many other neat pet items too.

I find that the one who doesn’t want to exercise isn’t the dog, it’s me. The answer for that case is to suck it up and take them outside, rain or shine. Trust me, you’ll get a lot of positive comments about how dedicated you are.

Have you not been able to walk because you, yourself have not been able to handle the weather? Dogs could care less as long as they get to explore. Put your dogs outside on extended leashes so they can at least run. Im not sure how big your yard is and if you share it with others, talk to your neighbors about the situation and put up some running leashes. It will allow them to run back and forth in the yard. As long as you clean up after them, it should not be a problem at all of the neighbors. When inside, throw a ball against the wall and play catch with the dogs. You can bounce it off any wall and the dogs will be delighted. If the dogs like tug a war with a favorite toy, play that with them. I think its more you that is depressed because the warm weather got you out more. Now that its cold, your feeling a bit enclosed as well in the confines of your own home. Become creative with ways to overcome your winter blues as well. Your dogs will be just happy with the attention. If you have to, purchase a bright light and put it on wherever you are at home. The dogs could seem depressed because their owner is a bit depressed about the cold weather as well.

I put on my coat and boots, and go outside with them. Still works the same way, Good weather, bad weather, you take them for a walk. Mailman can do it. I can do it.

  32. Aaron A says:

We like to try and walk our dogs for at least 45 minutes a day but I know its hard when the weather gets cold. My husband typically tries to get them double the workout in half the time by riding his bike and having one of them run along next to it. This works good because they can get into a full sprint and it wears them out quick. Good Luck!

  33. Tree-Hugger says:

    Dude our pictures match =P

    sry had to say it.

So I guess you should just play with your dog inside?
I like to go out, even when it’s wet out.

Anytime there’s no rain get go out and walk your dogs.

  34. Shelly says:

Bundle up (you … not the dogs – they don’t care how cold or wet).

  35. catz says:

my dogs hate going out in the rain. its a real battle just to get them to go out to “do their business”! my pit bulls are such babies!

  36. ozzy59 says:

They still go for walks during any break in the rain.Cold I just put more clothes on.But we play with their stuffed animals in the house and toss tennis balls for them to chase and the laser light keeps them more than happy.
